The Appliance is an elegant group whose existence I was unaware of until a few months ago. It's not easy to define their music in words, their sounds, their arrangements so precise (and successful) that they overwhelmed me from the first listen.
Their music creates soft, psychedelic, electronic atmospheres; the melodies are sometimes languid, almost post-rock; some electronic tracks remind me of Tarwater. The Appliance manages to blend an impressive array of sounds with dynamic mixes creating unique pieces like the splendid Tuesday is Nearly Over, the passionate Fruits of the Sea, and the intriguing Mountains I (these are just some of the incredible tracks that make up Are you Earthed?).
We find a frenzied use of decidedly fabulous little keyboards and timely sounds carefully placed in its right place, and almost as if by magic, they strike you, wound you, overwhelm you... And still, I don't understand how they go unnoticed...
