Delayed synths that disappear into an undefined space, sounds reflected in a wide and hypnotic reverb, all framed by simple loops and sparse rhythms... this is The Devil's Walk, a little electronic gem, softened by the clear voice of Apparat, expressive and essential. Like a sponge, it has absorbed, synthesized, and reproduced in 10 tracks the essence of the last few years' electronics, from those that have been able to embrace "rock" (see Radiohead) to minimal experiments, passing through dysfunctions and short circuits transformed into sound and rhythm by people like Telefon Tel Aviv.
This album has a purely technical, electronic brain, but at the same time a warm and pulsating soul (Song of Los): the warmth and search for a soothing sensation can be felt in every track, almost purifying. Tracks like Black Water or Escape simply reach the pinnacle of these sensations, in an almost cathartic listening.
In short, 10 songs of considerable depth, a minimal electronic style that shuns sterility: definitely a good effort by Apparat, although some songs seem a little redundant after the second-third listen (A bang in the void, Sweet Unrest), but maybe it's just my feeling.
