I don't know why I chose "Lilly" as my first review, I think it has something special, and I'm surprised not to find it among the "already reviewed." Seven tracks that, among romantic or melancholic ballads and ironic or committed songs, form the best album of Venditti's production.
It starts with "Lilly" and "L'Amore Non Ha Padroni" which glide by effortlessly: two beautiful songs with interesting lyrics, especially "Lilly" which tells a sad story about drugs. A masterpiece is "Santa Brigida", a track sung in Romanesco where the lyrics are practically a prayer from farmers to the saint to not ruin the crops. Here, thanks also to the splendid orchestration of Giuseppe Mazzucca and Nicola Samale, Antonello surpasses himself by singing with such intense participation that he incredibly drags and captures the listener... The A-side closes somewhat anonymously with "Attila E La Stella", a ballad along the lines of "L'Amore Non Ha Padroni".
The B-side alone is worth the purchase of the record. It begins with "Compagno Di Scuola", a very famous song that recalls high school days... The first time I heard it, I had just graduated, and in those six minutes of listening, it felt like I was reliving the five years spent with friends, the girl in the first row, and the legendary bar in front "where Nietzsche and Marx shook hands and talked together about the latest party"... Beautiful, even today when I listen to it I get goosebumps... The album closes with "Lo Stambecco Ferito", a song with very interesting lyrics and music, which requires careful listening to understand every little detail, and "Penna A Sfera", where Venditti responds ironically to a journalist who had previously attacked him...
An album to have, one of the milestones of all Italian music.

Lilly ...
Quattro buchi nella pelle
carta di giornale
nuda e senza scarpe
bianca, e non in ospedale
senza catene
senza denti per mangiare
una montagna di rifiuti
nessun latte ti potra' salvare...
Studiavamo insieme
viaggiavamo insieme
lilly...
Quale treno ora?
Quale libro ora?
Quale amore ora mi ti potra' ridare?
Lilly...
la mia stanza e' gelata
dove sei andata?
I tuoi poeti maledetti,
le tue collane...
Lilly...
li dovevano arrestare
ti dovevano guarire
Lilly...
quattro arance la domenica mattina
dopo due anni
non mi riconoscevi
eravamo due bambini
io non ero il tuo dottore
non riuscivi a fare l'amore...
Lilly siringa, polizia
Quale treno ora?
Quale libro ora?
Quale amore ora,
mi ti potra ridare?
Lilly amore,
amore mio...

Lilly represents the most intense, painful, wrenching Italian song ever written on drugs, recounting with meticulousness and an emotion never rhetorical, the most intimate devastation of addiction.
Only 7 tracks that represent the sum of a period, a thought, a man and an artist, the highest peak that he will never be able to reach again.

Back then, Venditti couldn’t yet know that his record would become an evergreen of Italian music for all time.
Lilly ultimately marks the dawn of a great musical season... a unique and unrepeatable season, conscious and mature.
