Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (1900–1944) was a French writer, poet, journalist and aviator, best known for Le Petit Prince. He disappeared during a wartime flight in 1944.

French author and aviator; born 1900, died 1944 (disappeared on a wartime reconnaissance flight over the Mediterranean). Best known for Le Petit Prince (1943); also author of Vol de nuit and Terre des hommes. Worked as a pilot and wrote travel/aviation pieces and novels.

The available review praises Le Petit Prince as a beautiful and intelligent children’s book. It highlights the book's dedication, central episodes (the fox, the rose, sunsets) and Saint-Exupéry's identity as writer and aviator. The reviewer notes his disappearance during a wartime mission in 1944.

For:Readers of classic children's literature, adults who enjoy lyrical fables and readers interested in aviation-memoir crossover.

"To Léon Werth, I apologize to all the children if I dedicate this book to an adult. I have a good excuse: this adult is the best friend I have in the world. I have another excuse: this adult can understand anything, even children\'s books. I have a third excuse: this adult lives in France and is hungry and cold. He needs to be consoled. If all these excuses are not enough for you, it will mean that I will dedicate this book to the child that this adult once was. All adults were once children (but perhaps not all of them remember it). So I am changing my dedication: To Léon Werth, when he was a child." (A. de Saint-Exupéry)
