Start from Scratch is a step forward not only for the Antillectual, but for the very active European post-hardcore scene they represent (among others with Atlas Losing Grip, Satanic Surfers, My Head For A Goldfish…).
The Dutch trio delivers an intense album, more technical, but also more melodic than in the past.
There is a clear greater attention to detail in the arrangements and production, which, although it may seem softer compared to previous works by Antillectual, does not overlook the importance that the group has always placed on lyrics, well-balanced, intelligent, and rich in sharp and lucid social critique.
Noteworthy is the appearance in a track as guest vocalist Chris Hannah, from the historic Canadian band Propagandhi (to whom our band certainly owes a lot in terms of sound). Start From Scratch is an appreciable album for its eccentricity and complexity (as much as a punk rock oriented album can be), but at the same time simple and well-conceived.
