I was surprised when I typed this band into the search and got "the cosmic void".
After 3 years since their last work "The Terror State", Anti-Flag has returned once again to sting and attack the U.S. government and society in general with their lyrics. "For Blood and Empire" is their first album for a major label, so it was normal to have a bit of fear about this new work, but already the first track seems to dispel my doubts: "I'd tell you it but..." starts off strong and unleashes all their aggression (I'M DEAD! I'M DEAD! My life is left no more!) in my opinion the best track of the CD; followed by "The press corpse", a great rhythm and very catchy chorus; then comes "Emigre" and "The project for a new American century", the latter characterized by a beautiful chorus in which one part is accompanied by hand claps, truly beautiful ;)
Other notable tracks are "Hymn for the dead" in which the sound of an unspecified wind instrument (forgive my ignorance!) stands out at 2:20, 1 trillion dollar$ which lets you catch your breath midway through the CD, very melodic and calm, the content of the lyrics is the only thing that doesn't soften ("fuck the world, a lot of people gonna die tonight"). "War sucks, let's party!" also accompanied by rhythmic hand-clapping, and whose title could well have been the CD's; closing the 39 minutes of this CD is "Depleted uranium is a war crime", the toughest and most aggressive song among the 13 on the album.
I think Anti-Flag has not lost their style at all and their way of playing that brought them success with previous albums, and they have not been influenced by the record label by releasing a too commercial album, like what happened with Less Than Jake, but that's another story... Surely a great CD, which does not equal their previous work, but certainly will be appreciated by both new and old fans alike...
ps: this is my first review, this is not an excuse for the mess I've made today, but I promise that next time I will try harder ;)
