I approached this band intentionally, at first I didn't really like them but now listening to caught in mosh from 'among the living' I downloaded 'fistful of metal', the first album of this thrash metal band, one of the most important alongside Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth.
The lineup of Anthrax on 'fistful of metal' includes Danny Lilker who, after the next tour, leaves the band to form Nuclear Assault, a very good group in my opinion. On vocals, we find Neil Turbin, a singer capable of excellent high notes and undisputed power, unfortunately, after leaving Anthrax he couldn't do much else, and his trace has been lost over the years. This record takes you back to the 80s when the Bay Area was dominant and the sounds were raw and rough, synonymous with musical beauty.
The CD is full of emotions, passing through milestones like metal thrashing mad, which has now become the anthem of many metalheads, or deathrider, which gives a very impressive charge and would make anyone headbang, a bit unnoticed goes the cover of Alice Cooper. Everything changes with tracks like panic and subjugator where Neil's voice gives its best, combined with screamed parts without flaws of genre, riffs dirty to the right point and unbelievable power accompany double-bass drumming that gives chills and creates a sonic devastation that few bands manage to do. There isn't much more to say about this album that has made the history of American thrash metal; initially, I wasn't very convinced of this band, but I succeeded: I put on the CD, turned the volume up, shaking like few others for the entire duration of the CD.
By now Anthrax no longer have these sounds, now they are into rap-metal, which unfortunately have been lost forever in the Valhalla of old-style thrash metal.
This is one of the most thrash albums Iāve ever listened to.
With this album, you canāt help but bob your head in sync with the music.
