The wave of pure and hard metalcore led at the forefront by Lamb Of God, has never achieved great success among true metalheads. This genre, in fact, is very stagnant, with few solos, simple riffs, and monotonous singing. Recently, however, many bands (usually emerging ones) have exploited the catchiness of the guitar parts of this genre, combining them with more metal sounds, like solos and occasionally even clean vocals in the choruses in power style. For example, Trivium and Mendeed are the best examples.
Precisely Trivium’s Ascendancy is the major inspiration for these Anterior: typically metalcore rhythms combined with thrash and death sounds, with the difference that, of clean choruses, there is no trace here. Songs entirely in growl, therefore, but that lose nothing in personality, thanks to the ever fresh voice of Luke Davies, which strongly resembles Matt Heafy of Ascendancy.
Despite being inspired by many bands and genres, they always manage to give a hint of themselves to the tracks, that touch of personality that makes them unique, similar to many but identical to none.
Another applause goes to the two guitarists, Leon Kemp and Steven Nixon (ex-Mendeed), who besides the rhythmic part, excel with beautiful intertwined solos and excellent duets.
And so "This Age Of Silence" hits from the first listen, with its mix of thrash, death, and metalcore. Young promises, therefore, these Anterior: a bit unfortunate, given the little fame they enjoy, but they have what it takes to be the "next big thing" in metal.
