The Profile

Ansur are a Norwegian progressive/avant-garde metal group from Drammen. Emerging with the 2005 demo Carved In Flesh and debut album Axiom (2006), they pushed further on Warring Factions (2008), blending post-black roots with progressive, jazz/fusion, and other styles.

Line-ups cited include Torstein J. Nipe, Stian Svenne, Espen A.R. Aulie, and Glenn Ferguson (demo era), and later a Drammen-based trio. Warring Factions features artwork by Eliran Kantor and saxophone by Anja Nedremo, and continues a concept linked to Axiom.

Reviews portray Ansur as a Norwegian progressive/avant-garde metal group evolving from post-black roots to a rich, genre-blending sound. Warring Factions (2008) is praised for ambitious fusion, melodic breadth, and thoughtful arrangements. The Carved In Flesh (2005) demo shows strong ideas but suffers from poor recording. Axiom (2006) is cited as darker and a precursor to the later concept. Artwork for Warring Factions is by Eliran Kantor; sax parts by Anja Nedremo.
