LA RECENSIONE

“Sellouts!”

Lou, John, and Sterling were hurt. But how! For the first time, someone was willing to pay them to play, and he was getting so pissed?

But Angus was adamant and left them forever.

"Sellouts!" and he walked away without looking back.

Damn, he had played with people like Tony Conrad, Marian Zazeela, and Terry Riley, with the Theatre of Eternal Music by La Monte Young (alongside that youngster John Cale)!

Luckily for those three (and for us), Sterling remembered the little sister of a friend of his, a certain Maureen.

But that is another story.

Instead, Angus decided to travel the world until he reached Nepal, where he settled. He continued to play music, wrote poetry, and studied esoteric thought.

And, fortunately, someone thought to record his music.

5 albums in his name, plus a handful of collaborations (from Conrad to LaMonte Young).

This “The Cloud Doctrine,” released by the folks at SubRosa, is - perhaps - the most varied. But all the others are worth a listen too.

Then Angus left this plane of existence at just 41 years of age.

And I don’t think he ever knew (nor was he interested in knowing) what happened to his former friends Lou, John, and Sterling (and the little sister of their friend).

Those Velvet Underground.

Those sellouts.
