Second studio album for the Spanish Angeles del Infierno, released in 1985, which consolidates the excellent form of the quintet from San Sebastian. “Diabolicca” contains the same energy and enthusiasm as their previous work. A rather “fantasy” vinyl cover (it depicts a woman fighting a dragon with a sword) typical of the era makes it clear that we are dealing with an old-style metal sound. The first track is the fast and sharp “Fuera de la Ley,” which offers a kind of speed metal promising to please the listener's ears.

Con las Botas Puestas” is a “tribute” to Iron Maiden, and for those familiar with the lyrics of the song in question, it’s clear that the chorus “Morire con las botas puestas, Morire con las botas puestas” refers to “Die with your boots on” from the 1983 album “Piece of Mind.” Of course, this doesn’t take anything away from the composition of the track, which is well-played in its own right, and Juan Gallardo does a great job in the role of vocalist. “Dame Amor” and “Junkie” present “rock and roll” themes but do not stray far in style, firmly anchored to a simple, engaging, and well-arranged metal! “Al Otro Lado del Silencio” is the only “ballad” of the album and lasts longer compared to other tracks, as the average duration of the songs is three minutes. The combative “Héroes del Poder” is a critique of the powerful forces in society that impose their authority with arrogance. There is somewhat of a conceptual connection with the opening track “Fuera de la Ley,” which denounces the fact that society wants to portray metal fans as outlaws and thus not accept their lifestyle. In short, we are right in the middle of the '80s era in terms of both lyrics and attitude. “Prisionero” is undoubtedly one of the best episodes of this record, and the “filler” “No Pares” makes way for the final “Diabolicca,” which closes the show.

The judgment is undoubtedly more than positive and, along with “Pacto con El Diablo,” represents the pinnacle of Angeles del Infierno's career, which deserved more recognition even beyond the Pyrenees. The band is still active and, as far as I know, has moved to the USA, specifically to Miami, and recently includes a keyboardist. Another album worth listening to!

STAY HEAVY!!!
