This rock opera written by Andrew Lloyd Webber with the help of Tim Rice for the lyrics undoubtedly belongs to the history of musicals, perhaps not like Tommy or The Who's Quadrophenia, but certainly on the level of Cats and West Side Story.
Why purchase this double CD? Simple: because it is magnificently performed by skilled musicians, because the characters are well defined by the singers' voices (think of Ian Gillan as Jesus Christ or Murray Head as Judas Iscariot), because it contains excellent songs both in structure and in how they are intertwined.
Listening to this work, you know you're in front of a piece of great craftsmanship.
Perhaps the more appropriate question would be: why SHOULDN'T I buy it?
For those without prejudices.
