He hates politics but is terrified by it. He loves music and finds solace in it. Watching him on Youtube or catching glimpses of his wit on Berlinguer's “Cartabianca” doesn’t give you the real idea. It’s at his show, “La Sciagura”, that you truly encounter the genuine and indestructible soul of Andrea Scanzi.

The person writing to you is neither right-wing nor left-wing, still searching for himself and with very few certainties. Andrea Scanzi is one of them. Not necessarily because I always agree with him, no.

Scanzi is an essence that travels and weaves through, compressing and releasing in response to what this herd—no, rather, bunch (herd would refer to something sacred to me, the animal world)—of buffoons in government brings out from time to time.

On a human level, I am tired. Not very receptive, or better yet: I lack sensitivity.

The two hours of the show with Andrea Scanzi, if approached in good faith, make peace with that superfluous element we tend to shake off, but which we are about to leave to our children—instead, we are called to live it, to let it permeate our lives.

Consequently, to make an act of presence.

There’s a frantic woman who screams from the pulpit “tutto funzionerà,” drunk on a berlusconismo whose legacy she seems intent on celebrating every single day, followed by a classroom of students for whom Crozza now struggles tremendously to keep his parodies going, because they themselves are now a parody, between shaky bridges and the multiplication of wines.

Andrea Scanzi, when he grows dark, puts on melodies by De André, Gaber, Waters—artists for whom I don’t bat an eyelid.

Then, at the end, when all seems lost, “Extreme Ways” by Moby starts playing, and I find myself pounding my fist on the seat in front of me. Me, who wouldn’t move a muscle even to save my own life.

Yes, life. Now it’s all a murmur, a whispering. You have to strain your ear attentively to search for the truth. Because the truth exists, and it’s right there, within reach: you just need the courage to stand out and choose.
