- The Lives of Sidekick No. 5 -

I would like to start with a brief introduction about this column which will continue but will be published occasionally, based on those concerts that catch my attention. One of these took place in Botticino, a small town east of Brescia (the town is famous for its marble, with which they built the Altar of the Fatherland in Rome), the town will host an interesting jazz festival at the end of October, the location will be the same as the concert that will be described in the lines below: the Teatro Centro Lucia in Botticino Sera.

"Voci Controvento" is an event about the new singer-songwriters, this year featuring 4 guests on stage: in order of appearance Ettore Giuradei, Debora Petrina, Andrea Chimenti, and Tricarico. In this case, I will talk separately about the individual concerts and then give an overall assessment:

- Ettore Giuradei. The artist from Franciacorta enters politely, conveying a certain emotion that can be seen when he sings: his tone of voice is subdued, his gestures are slowed down or even jerky like a broken puppet. He tries to handle himself and faces the audience with character, deserving recognition over time. His lyrics are raw, imbued with dramatic intensity, and the language doesn't shy away from Gallicisms; musically, he performs well with the guitar, trying to guide the other musicians, a guitarist and a violinist, toward a successful performance of the piece. The results are commendable and positive, especially the violin makes a good impression. Rating: 7.5

- Petrina. The only woman of the evening shows the audience different skills, playing two instruments: the first a piano, alternating between a classical style and jazz-like tones, the second a strange keyboard with which she reproduces sounds of an accordion and others akin to a music box. Her lyrics are in various languages, including some in Italian, and she sings in a style that seems to echo certain patterns of Byork. Her performance has two flaws: her attitude towards the audience (she didn't even say good evening) and her accompanist, a musician who turns out to be outrageous on the guitar and mediocre on the bass. A real pity. Rating: 6.5

- Andrea Chimenti. The musician from Arezzo has over twenty years of career behind him, not experiencing the novice struggles of Giuradei. Musically, he alternates between the electric piano, where he presents a very elegant musical taste, and the guitar, with which he demonstrates his artistic background with sounds similar to those of Moda. His voice is very beautiful, charming, and full of vigor; Ungaretti's lyrics gain a particular flavor while his songs have a strong emotional pathos. Unlike Petrina, the accompanist on the electric guitar performs very well and duets with Chimenti in an enviable way: becoming a strongly highlighted strength. Rating: 8.5

- Tricarico. The most renowned name was expected to close the evening with an extremely bare stage where there were three speakers, a microphone, and a piano: a scene of strong impact. Tricarico leaves the musical duty to someone else and decides to sing, a choice that proves successful because the pianist is very skilled and effective. In singing, the result is admirable: the qualities that could have been appreciated at Sanremo emerge. Despite the possibility of an encore, Tricarico makes a mistake in the setlist by focusing only on his most famous songs, moving from "Io Sono Francesco" to "Vita Tranquilla". Rating: 7

The overall response is positive, we are witnessing an interesting and well-curated event by Paolo Cattaneo: the organization performs well and certainly offers a respectable service to the spectator. My hope is that this initiative can continue and reach a fourth edition.
