On April 30, 2010, "Tempesta di Fiori", the eagerly awaited new album by Andrea Chimenti, a historical name in the Italian music scene, is released. This album arrives after an intense live activity, around 5 years after the previous masterpiece "Vietato morire", in which Andrea, with the help of a small countryside house as a recording studio, was able to gift us, in just eleven tracks, the intensity and peculiarity of two contrasting elements: on one hand, the solitude of a man in search of himself, in need of silence, almost trapped in his own inner fragility, and on the other, a faint and bright hope, almost an invitation not to give in to adversities and the bitter pills that life, day after day, continues to reserve for us.
Hope. Rebirth. Change. These, on the other hand, are the main themes of Chimenti's new work, signs not only of a professional metamorphosis but also and above all personal, where change is seen as a storm that does not annihilate, does not wear down, does not destroy, but much more simply opens up new glimpses towards the positive and unexpected aspects of life, like the arrival of a new love, capable of bringing serenity when everything seems to have no meaning, no form. Andrea thus sings of love, in all its facets: love perceived as a lifeline in "Qualcosa cambierà", a splendid ballad where the deep and poetic voice of the singer-songwriter recalls the most touching pages of Paolo Benvegnù's solo career; love as addiction, need, a mad chase in the midst of pain, in the sinuous "Sangue", with which Chimenti reaches the compositional peak of the album thanks to an irresistible sax solo and a captivating chorus ("hold me tight/ to every breath/ a falling leaf/ to every breath/ you will hurt me/ I will give you blood/ that all the snow/ can color").
We can find more suggestive interpretations by Andrea in "Tempesta di fiori", the track that gives the album its title, and in "Il cielo si avvicina" which features Valentina Cidda, who with extreme elegance softens the harmonies that are fresh and incisive in themselves. The closure of the album is entrusted, certainly not coincidentally, to the charming "Lezioni di volo", the tale of a journey aboard an airship equipped with propellers, with the sole purpose of escaping, leaving everything behind, and determinedly starting a new life, while nevertheless making treasure of past experiences. A very successful reflection among dreams, escapes, and follies.
Ultimately, "Tempesta di fiori" is a special collection of twelve, highly inspired songs thanks to which our singer-songwriter music is enriched with an extraordinarily significant page.
"The album is simply this, my storm, that of many, of those who decide to "wear a dress the color of their eyes", cutting ties with a reality that no longer belongs to them". (Andrea Chimenti)
