I intend to immediately apologize to the dear wwwhatemoornet if I re-edited his review, which I nonetheless consider wonderful, but what I felt, I hope he will understand me, was like an unstoppable need. Yes, because although there are many albums I love, this is the one that more than any other has moved, shaken, and enthralled me. And it is precisely for this reason that I still consider it to be in first place in my personal ranking.
The Silent Enigma represents the highest point not only of Anathema's career but of an entire way of conceiving music. The Silent Enigma goes beyond the simple concept of a masterpiece; neither My Dying Bride, nor Paradise Lost, nor Katatonia have ever managed to create something capable of surpassing this work, impossible even to evaluate if it were not necessary.
It is a unique composition, which has the gift of knowing how to move in an incredible way. Within the grooves of this album, you will find everything: anger, pain, despair, resignation.
It goes beyond the concept of Heavy Metal, beyond the concept of Doom while remaining undeniably linked to these two worlds.
The Silent Enigma is nothing but a desperate journey into peaceful oblivion. It is a gloomy garden to mourn the death of a loved one. It is a cry for help to escape from this existence.
It is a dying wish for the end to cover us with serene peace.
It is a vision of a dying embrace.
It is a dream, an enigma... silent.
"Forget everything you are listening to because if you haven’t heard this album, you cannot express any opinion on the other CDs you own or will buy."
"The Silent Enigma is not music... it’s only a delusion made of silences."
"The Silent Enigma is a deep inner journey, into the desolation and pain of the human soul."
"No album will sound like this one, the sensations you will experience with this CD you won’t experience with any other CD."
