THE REVIEW

Yeah. Boring, right? You might say, "Oh no, another metal review! Let's immediately arm ourselves with blinders and slices of ham to shield our conscience and ears so that the cuddliness of our world isn't disturbed by something too 'strange' to appreciate."
But no. Yeah... because this is not metal. Strange, isn't it? To be honest, no, because apart from the latest reviews where I expressed all my passion for Nordic power metal, they almost always concerned very "borderline" bands.

We've already talked about Anathema, remember? Only those were different times, and the English band could boast of being one of the best doom bands around. Those were definitely different times.
Now, I don't know much about the genre to which Anathema most likely wants to take us back with this Alternative 4, which is a kind of atmospheric rock vaguely psychedelic and even a bit gothic, so I will avoid comparing them to bands I don't know (as many do), thus avoiding saying big nonsense.
I will therefore limit myself to an objective opinion, obviously lacking what an expert of the genre might grasp after listening to this CD, whether this is a déjà vu, a distant echo of pieces that once were or something else.

So, in my opinion, this CD is good. The cover, a little less so.

"Alternative 4 is one of the most refined and sweet records of the Anathema discography, ethereal and violent when needed, sentimental, emotional, psychologically deep and touching."

"'Inner Silence' is the most common story in the world, a love broken by death, supported by a crying piano and stretched, ethereal guitars."
