Amy Macdonald returns with her third album, and this time she manages to blend the unique content of the first album with the greater sonority of the second, thus achieving a pleasant and anything but predictable album. The single that preceded the album launch is "Slow It Down" and although it is not the most captivating track on the album, it is certainly the most catchy; from it, we can immediately feel how, instrumentally, the work resembles the second album and even improves it in some parts, albeit with a slight sense of déjà vu.
All tracks are very consistent, without any standing out from the others, creating an atmosphere that completely envelops during listening. The themes are varied and even quite thought-provoking in some places, like in "Across The Nile", or patriotic as in "The Green And The Blue", but above all reflective about the time that has passed and continues to pass, as is evident in "The Days To Be Young And Free" or "Left That Body Long Ago".
The title track well summarizes the atmospheres of the album, which is scattered with something slightly poetic, and love is mentioned in every song. "Human Spirit" is a track that shares its title with a track from "Are You Listening?" but certainly not the vision of the subject matter, in fact, it is a reflection on how, despite everything that happens, wars, corruption, the human spirit is still alive, how hope does not die. In "In The Game" the themes of fame and notoriety are addressed again, similarly to previous albums. The closing track "In The End" can be seen as a willingness to speak about other topics, not being able to be content with what was done in the album, but also as a resignation to be satisfied and watch, because you never know what else is yet to happen.
