THE REVIEW

With 'The Avenger' from 1999, Amon Amarth have been summoned before Odin to confirm the greatness they achieved on 'Once Sent From the Golden Hall'... and they succeeded!

The album consists of 7 songs (plus the bonus track "Thor Arise" in the limited edition) where an epic, solemn, and battle-like atmosphere lingers, as only Amon Amarth can create. The guitar riffs create melodic lines that the mind will hardly forget, the drums almost always settle on fast rhythms, while the singer Johan Hegg, although he has not yet reached the vocal maturity levels of recent albums, stands imperiously on this sound carpet, "shouting," sometimes even with a certain dramatic flair, his hymns to the Norse gods and all his anger against the Christian church that about a thousand years ago forcibly took over those northern territories imposing its religion.

'The Avenger' is more immediate compared to 'Once Sent From the Golden Hall', but not for this reason any less sublime and majestic. Recommended for those who love epic Melodic Death
