Alpaca Sports is the name behind which Andreas Jonsson hides, a young man from Gothenburg, and his group of (friends) musicians who help him by playing in the recording of the tracks. Among the musicians, special mention goes to the innocent choirs of Amanda Åkerman and Carl Jirestedt, co-author of the two tracks.
The two songs that make up this 7" are "Just For Fun" and "I'll Never Win". In both tracks, Jonsson explores indie-pop sounds with jangle guitars like the Smiths and references to the pop orchestrations of Belle & Sebastian due to the presence of the viola. The good Stuart Murdoch - and indirectly Morrissey - are occasionally mentioned in the lyrics. The collectiveness of the project is reminiscent of the Swedish group I'm From Barcelona, while the voice and accent of Andreas Jonsson are more reminiscent of the other Swede Jens Lekman.
Sweden reaffirms itself as one of the most active indie schools in recent years (also remembered are The Tallest Man on Earth, First Aid Kit, Boa Constrictor). The product is completed with the intriguing and colorful cover by Ray Kimura, a Japanese artist who is effectively a member of the project given his visual participation in the group's other works.
Highly recommended by the undersigned, who has been listening to them for almost three weeks nonstop.
