Debut EP for the Lombard band Alms Of The Giant, a very young formation dedicated to a math/post-rock that, although not original in its proposal, offers interesting insights. First of all, we are talking about a band that knows how to play and has a general idea of what it wants to achieve, through musically well-designed tracks, especially in the study of melodies, the classic point in favor in a similar case. Compared to many colleagues, these young musicians did not aim directly at the more chaotic/violent side of the proposed genre, focusing their attention on those external elements that usually make things intriguing to those who still know little about the project. "Oracles" is a mini that in five tracks offers power (as rightly expected), noteworthy guitar rides, and an alternation of scenarios that make it distinguishable from the classic debuts in the sector. "Dust On The Floor Of My Existence" is the classic opening song that immediately gives you an idea of what you are facing, a track that strongly focuses on the sound wall built by the guitars and a shouted vocal that gradually fades in power towards a decidedly soft-toned finale. Soft tones that we also find in "My Inner Voice", perhaps the best track of the whole lot where the desire to explode the heavy side is strong but is contained by the excellent play of voices that leads us to "Ludes", an instrumental track that serves as an interlude for the final duo, "Xiphas Gladius" and "Prevail". These two tracks are the aforementioned heavy side of Alms Of The Giants, fierce and intelligent at the right point, first stunning and then attacking the designated victim. A very interesting debut that also boasts a more than fitting production of sounds in the studio. We await the debut album to understand whether we are facing a meteorite or a first-class reality.
