Allen Steele (born 1958) is an American science fiction author known for the Coyote series. Coyote Rising (2004) is the second volume in that sequence.

Born 1958. Writes science fiction focused on space colonization and frontier themes. Coyote Rising is part of a larger body of work set on Coyote.

Coyote Rising (2004) is the second book in Allen Steele's Coyote trilogy but can be read standalone. The novel depicts factional conflict on Coyote (system 47 Ursae Majoris) between an authoritarian Union faction and Midland rebels. Steele's prose is described as dry and classic; the book mixes political drama, battles, and SF elements like native creatures and cyborgs. The reviewer (sotomayor) rates it 3/5 and finds it adventurous and charming.

For:Readers of science fiction interested in space colonization, political conflict, and adventurous SF epics.

The novel is the second chapter of a trilogy, but it can very well be read on its own for its content and is set on Coyote, the largest moon of the planet Bear, system 47 Ursae Majoris, which has become half a refuge for 'anarchists, libertarians, collectivists, and their opposites: military personnel, conspirators, hierarchs'.
