"C'est pas ma faute
Et quand je donne ma langue aux chats
Je vois les autres
Tout prêts à se jeter sur moi
C'est pas ma faute à moi
Si j'entends tout autour de moi
Hello, helli, t'es A (L.O.L.I.T.A.)
Moi Lolita"
It was with this chorus that Alizee reached the top of the charts around the world.
Originally from Ajaccio, Alizée owes all her (brief) success to meeting Mylène Farmer and Laurent Boutonnat, who for a long time had been looking for a young singer to perform an old song (written in the '80s) entitled "Moi... Lolita." Alizée arrived just in time and immediately got a recording contract that had her quickly release an album tailor-made for her: "Gourmandises."
Mylène Farmer and Laurent Boutonnat took care of writing the lyrics and composing the music.
Alizée's Gourmandises are divided between fresh French pop like "Moi... Lolita", "L'Alize", "JBG", "Veni Vedi Vici" and the light hints of electronics in "Abracadabra" (which are also present throughout the album). However, special attention must be given to the other songs on the CD:
"Parler Tout Bas" where Alizee's innocent (very childlike) voice is accompanied by an orchestra and the usual electronic beats; and "Gourmandises", which is the track that gives the album its title; indeed, within it we can find the summary of these twelve tracks. Beautiful background music accompanies the sensual voice of Alizée as she sings suggestive and provocative lyrics.
"Gourmandises" is the most appropriate title for Alizée's debut album. Like a dessert, the French lyrics and the music blend into a pleasant mix, but at the same time, not too adventurous. The lyrics may seem frivolous but are quickly recovered by the music; and... even if this album may hold little "philosophical" meaning, it has added a new meaning to the concept of world pop.
