The Profile

Alias is a Canadian-American AOR/hard rock band formed in 1988 by Freddy Curci and Steve DeMarchi (both formerly of Sheriff) with ex-Heart members Steve Fossen, Michael Derosier, and Roger Fisher. Their 1990 self-titled debut yielded the hit “More Than Words Can Say” (US No. 2) and “Waiting for Love.” A second album recorded in the early ’90s was finally released as Never Say Never in 2009.

Members originated from Sheriff (Freddy Curci, Steve DeMarchi) and Heart (Steve Fossen, Michael Derosier, Roger Fisher). The debut album Alias (1990) includes the hit “More Than Words Can Say” and “Waiting For Love.” The shelved follow-up surfaced in 2009 as Never Say Never.

A detailed look at Alias’s 1990 self-titled debut from an AOR lens. The review deems most of the album formulaic, praising only “Waiting For Love.” “More Than Words Can Say” is acknowledged as the big chart hit. Production and drumming are criticized for rigidity, and the verdict narrows the album’s appeal to genre devotees.
