Ustad Ali Akbar Khan (1922–2009) was an Indian sarod virtuoso and a major figure in Hindustani classical music, founder of the Ali Akbar College of Music.

Born 14 November 1922; died 18 June 2009. Renowned sarod player in Hindustani classical tradition. Founded the Ali Akbar College of Music in California. The album Journey was recorded in Los Angeles (per reviews).

Reviews praise Ali Akbar Khan's sarod virtuosity and the album Journey for mixing Hindustani classical phrasing with some Western harmonies. Standout tracks mentioned are "Lullaby", "Journey" and "Come Back My Love". The album was recorded in Los Angeles and features tabla, harmonium and occasional Western instruments. Opinions note a few less successful tracks but overall regard the work as strong.

For:Listeners of Hindustani classical and world music; fans of string instruments (sarod) and those curious about East-West musical blends.

The track "Lullaby" is an authentic wonder; blessed be the day I had the fortune to listen to it for the first time, an ecstasy that repeats with every listen.

it was recorded in Los Angeles, yet absolutely not distorting it, indeed preserving its ethnic value almost as if it had been played in Calcutta.
