Returning this year to the scene are Alexisonfire, after the excellent album "Watch Out!" which was part of that emo-core wave that's been so popular in recent years. Unlike the previous album, this one shows many changes on the part of the group, although still on the same musical line.
Alexisonfire made their mark with "Watch Out!" which fell into the modern emo-core category, though they managed to stand out, especially considering that with “Crisis” Alexisonfire have proven to have talent, composing two albums that alternate melody and aggression typical of the genre.
The album opens with "Drunks, Lovers, Sinners And Saints", a fast-paced track that at times recalls harder rock; it continues with two pieces very similar to each other, "Keep It On Wax" and "You Burn First", the latter featuring a vocal contribution by Gared O'Donnell of Planes Mistaken For Stars. So far the record will seem quite different from “Watch Out,” leading to think of a radical change in the band; however, this is not the case when a track like "Mailbox Arson" comes to the ears, a song with a hardcore spirit. It is followed by the single "This Could Be Anywhere In The World", which returns to the style of "Watch Out", as do the other remaining tracks with tight and fast rhythms.
In conclusion, an album not well-defined, where Alexisonfire "risk" a bit, trying to change their emo-core origins, which then (in my opinion) fortunately they resume in the second part of the album. More than an album I would define it as an experiment by the band, which in my opinion is successful, where these guys gain their own personality, making them slightly different from other emo-core bands around.
Alexisonfire are anything but in crisis, and if the emo productions are at these levels, they are more than welcome.
The band is fully part of the new emocore wave, skilled in alternating hardcore influences and sharp guitars with piercing screaming, along with emo interludes that lead to choruses of rare beauty.
