THE REVIEW

After launching the side-project The Last Shadow Puppets, Alex Turner (voice and guitar of the Arctic Monkeys) releases his first work under his own name. Submarine EP constitutes the soundtrack of the eponymous film by Richard Ayoade.

6 tracks spread over just under twenty minutes that have little to do with the Arctic Monkeys. The intro is a foretaste of the piece "Stuck on the Puzzle" where the piano appears, an unconventional instrument for Turner. In the other tracks, it shifts from the folk sounds of ''Hiding Tonight'' and "It's Hard to Get Around The Wind" to the subdued pop of ''Glass in the Park'', ending with ''Piledriver Waltz'', the most rhythmic track of the EP. Essential arrangements are complemented by lyrics that are decidedly more inspired compared to the Monkeys' recent works.

An EP that reflects the film's atmospheres, whose viewing is highly recommended.
