That Alex Britti is a great guitarist, there is no doubt. That Alex Britti is a songwriter of quite low level, not to say terrible in some cases, there is no doubt either.
The last album "3" sold little partly due to Britti's loss of that vein of irony that made "La Vasca", "Mi Piaci" and "Solo Una Volta (Per Tutta La Vita)" the anthems of this little Italy. However, it at least made him more interesting.
The problem is that at the same time Britti, in the grip of a mystical crisis, became the protégé of Maurizio Costanzo, where he often and willingly appears performing the pedalboard number. Cute once, acceptable twice, a torment after seeing the same act 15 times between Buona Domenica and the Maurizio Costanzo Show. In fact, Costanzo writes 3 songs on the album. Oh well. At least he doesn't force him to duet with Platinette and Lecciso.
Beneath all this fair amount of stuff, there is an Alex Britti who discovers himself towards artistic maturity.
"Prendere O Lasciare" is a pleasant song, "Festa" is something new, fresh, not the usual silly-hit. "Eccoci Qua" is one of the most beautiful Italian songs of this year. The rest is somewhat in the same line, perhaps a bit monotonous, a bit repetitive, but anyway there is no return to the origins that everyone fears.
An album that will sell little, an ideal album to let play in the stereo while the world outside spins.
