Avatar.

The tragedy of today's cinema is that we no longer think about what to expect more, but about what to expect less; less compared to the titanic yet shameful advertising campaigns we see every day on television or in the streets, campaigns like the one made for this film.

Oh yes...

Because cinema, covered by the false guise of new 3D technology, has now completed the centuries-old work of enriching and summing up the means and techniques to make a film a good film, to start a progressive and slow (but ever so evident) work of continuous and inexorable subtraction. So what is this "Avatar"? I would almost say the pretentious sci-fi sequel to 'Dances with Wolves', if this weren't too childish a comparison. But indeed, at least at first glance, the elements present in this representation seem to be nothing more and nothing less than those that have characterized hundreds and hundreds of films that came before this one.

We have the usual war between the bad and the good, the former civilized and totally devoid of feelings, the latter the good and wise savages who violently suffer the aggressions and claims of the first. In the middle, our lieutenant 'John Dumbar', who (surprise!) if at first sides with the bad guys, later integrates with the indigenous population until he completely adopts their customs and fights on their side in the final war that after a(n) immense carnage will finally bring the tale to its completion making everyone live happily ever after.

Well, original, isn't it?

Unfortunately, the Indians of "Dances with Wolves" did not manage the miracle of winning against mega guns and cannons with bows and arrows, and poor things, in the end, they had to go into exile. Doesn't that seem like an injustice to you? And yet someone, at the end of two exhausting and a half hours of playback, had the courage to attempt an applause. Maybe they were just happy that the movie was over.

Wow, 3D really hurts the eyes!

Ah, beautiful special effects, huh, but please, this was a given.

After all, what isn't in this work?
