It happens like this: one day you get up, go to school, return home, and while you're waiting for the Simpsons, you start channel surfing. I used to enjoy it; back then, Iva Zanicchi was still around, chef Tony, and then there was "music zoo." So, in those few moments when Leone di Lernia wasn’t on, I would watch all these unlucky Italian artists until one day, Alberto Donatelli appeared. This charming Roman singer talked in his song "gli occhi di alessia mertz" about calling his girlfriend and how she could never go out with him for silly reasons (like geometry homework, working at a pizzeria). In the (horrible) video, he appeared with a t-shirt like Debaser's (really ugly), but with his number on it. I immediately wrote it down and gave it a try; I texted "hello dear Alberto, I am a fan of yours, can you tell me when your album comes out?" I wasn’t expecting a reply, but after 10 seconds, my phone's envelope lit up, and he answered, "thanks, you’re too kind, anyway my album comes out at the end of June." With my heart beating fast, I started telling all my classmates; the only one who seemed a bit interested was my desk-mate Alessandro M., since he also watched the show, hosted by two complete fools (now one does a commercial for Tronky and the other for Fonzie's; if you lick your fingers, you only enjoy it halfway... what a sad end these two poor guys have had!!!). So much so that we started following our dear "national Albertone" on every dodgy regional channel from "Radio Roma" to "TeleLazio," from "T9" to "FM Roma".
The result is this: I find myself writing a review on Debaser after 4 years, and my friend Alessandro listens to him on full blast in the car, drunk.
His CD represents "my treasure," every now and then I look at it, at Alberto's picture, and I think, "those damn 30 cents I could have wasted to tell him to go to hell"... but man is like this, contradictory in himself... goodbye dear ones.....
dedicated to: when I still had a cellphone and didn’t use a carrier pigeon..... truly a doctor he is.....
