LA RECENSIONE

Sometimes, a record is reviewed based solely on the emotions evoked by the memories it is tied to.
It would be better to refrain from this, to stick to purely commenting on the musical and artistic content, but then there would be fewer reviews around...

'Gelato Metropolitano' was certainly a step up, but Camerini hadn't yet become the sickly-sweet dancer of 'Rock and Roll Robot' or worse, 'Tanz Bambolina'. We are faced with an extremely enjoyable middle ground, at times terribly kitsch (the beginning of the title track)
with inserts of a metropolitan Milanese slang that perhaps has now disappeared '...son scossa in paranoia...'.  However, a tribute of affection must be paid to this kitsch almost à la Renato Zero, (no offense to the Sorcetti and Sorcini), in my opinion even a bit mocked, almost ridiculized.

Camerini once again proves to be a brilliant artist, maybe a bit misunderstood, certainly sweet, at times tender and 'clean', inside and out, ('Barbara ha gli occhi d'oro, Mario sta ridendo felice' -Macondo-). "Neurox" is an extraordinary song that goes beyond the intentions of the talented Alberto, hallucinatory, claustrophobic, sweet, and desperately so, like the character's desire for love, a sort of Frankenstein of the late '70s. The rest of the LP is bizarre, irreverent, provocative, carnivalesque yet ultimately innocent and quite comforting. Charming, in short.

Then came the '80s, the backlash, and as people used to say, even Camerini said '-Enough, I have a family to support, let's see if we can make some money with Music...'.

The album incorporates metropolitan Milanese slang and offers deep emotional themes, particularly in the standout track 'Neurox.' Alberto Camerini

Alberto Camerini is an Italian singer and guitarist, frequently described in the reviews as the “Electronic Harlequin,” blending rock with electronics, commedia dell’arte imagery, and (at times) Brazilian/Latin rhythms. His best-known hit is “Rock ’n roll robot,” while albums like “Comici Cosmetici” and “Rockmantico” are portrayed as key statements of his surreal, carnivalesque, and synth-driven side.
