The more pop, simple, and intimate side of the Strokes, or at least so it seems when listening to the solo debut of Albert Hammond Jr, guitarist of the notorious New York quartet.
Melodies with a somewhat retro flavor mixed with riffs that seem to have come out of the "Room on Fire" sessions, make "Yours to Keep" a rather pleasant record, starting with the lullaby of "Cartoon Music for Superheroes", moving on to "Everyone Gets a Star" or "101", tracks that still feel the influence of his belonging group. It took Julian Casablancas (?) to ruin track number 2 of his faithful companion, in a piece that surely would have deserved more without that horrible vocal track.
Carefree songs where Albert talks about how difficult it is to live in the city or about a vacation in Jamaica and obviously about love as in the sweet "Blue Sky", where emerges a truly interesting vocal timbre: will he take Julian’s place? A short record with not too many pretensions, yes, also because due to the admiration the five Strokes enjoy, especially in the English magazines (NME gave it 8), they will cover any of their publications in gold anyway; that does not mean that this album presents itself as an enjoyable work that never bores.

Albert Hammond Jr is an excellent guitarist, but he’s not a singer.
Unfortunately, the effort and experience weren’t enough to make it a sensational album.

Albert Hammond Jr is finally able to express his own style here, confirming his qualities as a good guitarist but not only that, also showing to have a good voice and excellent songwriting skills.
A CD that never tires, suitable for any moment, to be listened to carefree, tapping your foot to the beat.
