THE REVIEW

In 2009, the Sicilian band Albanopower (which includes members such as Lorenzo Urciullo-Colapesce) released their debut album "Maria's Day" after several EPs.

The 13 tracks draw on the most diverse influences: from Notwist to Blonde Redhead, through Talking Heads and Stereolab. The music ranges from folk to wave, from indie pop to electronics, reaching elements of post-rock and even funk. The unifying element is the pop sensibility that appears in each track.

Special mention goes to the song "Merry Christmas Darling," a cover of the Carpenters' song, which makes up for a couple of lackluster tracks in the collection. The dualism already expressed in the band's name also translates into the record: eclectic on one side and heterogeneous on the other, but never disjointed. Moreover, it is played with a manic precision.
