So Called Chaos, the latest work from the rebel of rock: Alanis Morissette, comes out after two years of absence. Heavy years, as the previous work: Under Rug Swept did not receive the critical and public success that everyone expected. Well, even the latest album by the Canadian singer is not destined to write pages in the history of music.
So Called Chaos is without a doubt a simple and natural record, in which Alanis puts aside the "armor" she has carried for too long, to show her own weaknesses and vulnerabilities; in this work, the singer shows remarkable maturity, a maturity that does not pay off, as she has lost along the way that anger, that irreverence that marked her great artistic journey. After burying the hatchet, the singer is unable to create original lyrics and music, unable to show original worlds, without falling into rhetoric and repetitiveness, which often invades the artistic path of songwriters.
Among the best tracks stand out obviously Everything, which talks about a wonderful man capable of capturing and understanding the dark sides of the woman he loves (Alanis), Eight Easy Steps, a kind of manual, seasoned with rock sounds, aimed at improving life conditions. Moreover, very intriguing are the ballad This Grudge and the title track So Called Chaos.
Despite the album being "a snapshot of a moment in life" it fails to provoke great emotions, the songs are catchy, but not destined to last forever, the lyrics are deep, but do not scratch the soul, the music is captivating but does not manage to touch the skin. It's unfortunate to say, but Alanis was better when she sang "Cause the joke that you laid in the bed that was me, and I'm not gonna fade, as soon as you close your eyes and you know it, and every time I scratch my nails down someone else's back
