It took 15 years to hear something new from Alan Parsons, the legendary sound engineer of Pink Floyd, and above all, the creator of the mythical Project together with the late Eric Woolfson, which produced masterpieces between the '80s and '90s such as Eye in The Sky, Pyramid, I Robot (a pioneer of an electro-pop genre), and many other albums that fans of the genre remember as milestones of a genre contaminated by the many musical facets that composed the musical heritage of Alan and Eric.
The Secret, an album of unreleased tracks released in April 2019, is perhaps the farewell of a brilliant artist inextricably bound to melodic lines and harmonic solutions now fixed in the past but which fully satisfy the nostalgics of the genre and even those who attempt a first approach to this world, which tells a lot about so much music produced following the golden age.
In this album, there are many old-style ballads, remarkably pleasant, yet not enough tracks feature the driving electronic rhythms to which the Parsons-Woolfson duo had accustomed us.
The performers, with soft voices added to that of Parsons, convey the idea of a timeless product but sweetened by the passing years, which will please those who were there at the time and intrigue those who approach a brand-new vintage, immersing themselves in significant and elaborate orchestrations that have dreamily inspired many "melodics" for thirty years.
A good product, ultimately, for those who love the genre, and a pleasant discovery of a glorious past that bids us farewell, perhaps setting the last stone in a musical construction that will remain and endure as a cornerstone of pop.
