The movie you all know. The soundtrack as well...
Among the thirteen themes, 11 are written and performed by the same (with a big hand from Alan Howarth, who is often cited as a co-author) Carpenter: probably among the greatest craftsmen (said in the good sense of the term) that the seventh art has given to the world.
There are soundtracks that go beyond the films they belong to, and there are movies remembered only for the score (this is not one of those cases).
I am convinced that if "Escape From New York" has become a classic, it is also thanks to the music that accompanies it. Certainly not technical masterpieces (often they are little more than scales enriched by elegant computer programming and keyboard work), they are so strongly adherent to the images that they can be easily considered as natural extensions of the script. When this happens, the problem that could arise is that without the images, the various melodies might lose their interest and impact: this does not happen here.
They are just as moving: with their minimalism, they stimulate the imagination and the desire to create a (more or less) dystopian universe for oneself. A bit like little Snakes, we find ourselves facing a future full of uncertainties but sure that our cynicism will prevail.
