Al Green (born Albert Leornes Greene, April 13, 1946) is an American soul singer and songwriter, celebrated for his falsetto, hits such as "Let's Stay Together", his work with producer Willie Mitchell and Hi Records, and later gospel recordings after becoming a pastor.

Born April 13, 1946 in Arkansas. Rose to prominence in the late 1960s and 1970s with Hi Records and producer Willie Mitchell. Noted for the hit "Let's Stay Together" and for blending gospel and R&B into soul. Converted to Christianity in the mid-1970s and recorded gospel; later returned to secular recordings. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (class of 1995).

Reviews praise Al Green's falsetto, his work with producer Willie Mitchell and Hi Records, and his influence on soul. Taddi's review gives detailed context and welcomes the 2003 reunion/album. A short second review calls Back Up Train "great album".

For:Fans of classic soul, R&B and gospel; listeners interested in 1970s soul and Hi Records productions.

The reason for the success is simple: Al contributed to the birth of a new musical genre: soul, blending the rhythm'n blues of blacks with gospel.
