THE REVIEW

Let's generalize a bit: Was Sunbather by Deafheaven one of your albums of the year? Do you not disdain My Bloody Valentine? Do you like genre blends and a certain type of recordings?

If you answered yes to at least one of these questions, then pay attention to the Californians Airs, also from San Francisco like the aforementioned Deafheaven.

The soundscapes they create are bright and distant and blurred at the same time, but here the black metal framework and the constant blast beats are missing, replaced by lo-fi sounds with a garage flavor, without forgetting the main influence which is still shoegaze in its various deviations.

The album is evenly divided between more dreamy moments with elusive specific weight like the initial title track "Adore" (opened by spoken words) and "Missing" (additional vocals by Britty Drake of Pity Sex) and violent guitar feedbacks that swallow us in a vortex of emotions such as "Sundials," which rightfully stands among the best along with "Morgan & Frankie." The post-hardcore nuances of "What You Were" messily close this fast LP that flows smoothly and pleasantly, hoping that the sun continues to rise even now as we move away from the beautiful season, so that we can enjoy them again while waiting to breathe spring air to the fullest once more.
