The Profile

Agoraphobic Nosebleed are an American grindcore/cybergrind band formed in 1994, led by guitarist/producer Scott Hull. Known for replacing a live drummer with a drum machine at punishing speeds, they have released key works on Relapse Records including Honky Reduction, Frozen Corpse Stuffed With Dope, Altered States of America, and Agorapocalypse, and later explored doom/sludge on the EP Arc. Core contributors include Jay Randall, Richard Johnson, and vocalist Kat Katz.

Formed in 1994 (US); uses a drum machine instead of a live drummer; primary label: Relapse Records; PCP Torpedo/ANbRx reissued by Hydra Head (2006); key members: Scott Hull (also in Pig Destroyer), Jay Randall, Richard Johnson, Kat Katz; notable releases include Honky Reduction (1998), Frozen Corpse Stuffed With Dope (2002), Altered States of America (2003), Agorapocalypse (2009), Arc (2016).

Reviews celebrate ANb’s drum‑machine blitzes, caustic riffs and gleeful extremity. Altered States of America’s 100 songs/20 minutes is a recurring highlight, while Agorapocalypse is noted for tighter structures and Kat Katz’s vocal firepower. Arc flips the script with doom/sludge weight. PCP Torpedo/ANbRx’s remix disc pulls in Merzbow, Vidna Obmana and Justin Broadrick.
