A few months ago, I had the chance to see the eponymous Ricky Kasso live again, yes, them, the ones who with Busse Woods churned out a sound as fluffy and crusty as needed to vibrate at a low natural pulsation; a historic band and among my favorites of the genre, it seems that in recent years the operation is kept going thanks to Lori S, one of the most formidable stoner ladies for whom the line of thought is few records but with character;
The Acid King are a simple yet thunderous blend of ethereal voices and sonic earthquakes, around here the bass-guitar-drums trio reaches truly nuclear levels where everything melts over the voicing of Lori, a balance so well crafted that it often seems appealing even to those who don't typically favor certain genre auditions;
Free is an EP part of a split, year two-thousand-and-one, music all to be kneaded, made of rolling rock, asphalt, and mirages, the perfect intersection between flashy style and hippy ethics, between biker rock and wild psychedelia; under these notes, two wheels ride to get high in nature, for those fascinated by inspirations to ideas there are stories that tell of numerous open trunks among amiable generator parties in Busse Woods, free to live and die.
While to a drummer I would suggest III, regarding the string instruments I’d say that the volume and the overweight imprint always face the disconcerting fixation on the usual formula, as simple as can be in the two crossed characteristics yet bewildering, proof that the sound of a record can indeed be everything;
Four tracks, mirror tracks open and close the circle of this outing, doom-stoner at its highest level where the movements suggest much sex and smoke, persuasive and spiral riffs on which the voice flows in a laminar motion and certainly does not add gravity;
In short, the classic band for which neglecting EPs is absolutely not advisable, a metallic jacuzzi and, if it wasn't clear, highly recommended for those who like to park themselves in front of the holy woofer waiting for the suction.
