The Americans Acetone in "Cindy" from 1993 might seem like a band confused about the direction to take. They distinctly split the album into two parts, two sides of the same coin divided by the instrumental "Intermission," a watershed between the group's two musical souls.
Believe me, Acetone are anything but confused, and they fully demonstrate this with their music.
It starts with the magnificent "Come On," a sleepy ballad tainted by a wonderfully slightly distorted guitar.
Apart from this sweet interlude, the entire A side highlights their more energetic soul. Starting with "Pinch," where the most electric Neil Young appears and distant memories of the Dream Syndicate resurface, up to the hypnotic "Endless Summers."
After the uninteresting instrumental "Intermission," we are faced with a different band.
The pace slows down, we are enveloped in a sweet sleepiness, a narcosis.
The more relaxed Velvet Underground, the less neurotic Television, the more reflective Neil Young, the Codeine, the SLOW CORE, played on a peaceful warm summer afternoon.
This and everything in between is what you'll find on side B of "Cindy."
An excellent record absolutely worth revisiting.
