This is a collection that leaves no one indifferent.
The Aborti Mancati is a historic band from Bergamo active from '89 to '94 that managed to make a myriad of fans laugh bitterly thanks to their irreverent and tragicomic lyrics talking about filth, sex, church, partying, and daily discomfort. But that's not all: there is a good dose of originality in composing the music, all with a punk rock flavor, but well-characterized, very catchy, and never tiring, even after years.
It's useless to go track by track given their number, so I'll give an overview of the best songs. "Egia Rembambida" is an attack on old ladies who meddle in people's alcoholic fun, but our guys retaliate with a nice death wish, while in "No Pre' No Fra'" they lash out against the church. The lyrics are harsh and ironic at the same time; it starts quietly with a sharp guitar and then gallops briskly towards the end, just as it began.
"Carne Suina" is hilarious: they simulate a dialogue between a man and a little girl who doesn't want to experience the pleasures of the flesh... But then she changes her mind and the music colors itself with a vague metal that matches perfectly with the singing. Then starts what is probably the best song of the bunch: "Peccati (Di Uno Degli Aborti Mancati)" is beautiful, the intro is a distorted church choir complete with organ, then the actual song starts with the Miscarried Abortion confessing to a friar; he lets him know a lot of sins committed: "I drink wine and I've never respected the Lord" - "many times I've killed, I've raped some girls, I think about pussy almost always - I can't get it out of my mind", finally asking for a light penance because he is not practical with prayers. It's not clear if it's a mockery or if there's really a bit of a desire for redemption, well... that's the beauty!
"Croste Del Naso" is an anthem, it may seem silly -and it is- but the Aborti manage to turn even the most snotty subject into a joy for our ears. Their sense of humor and self-destructive attitude are fully expressed in "Diluente" and in the sweet ballad "Spinello Blues". In the former, the specific benefits of huffing thinner are addressed, even if in the end they say it clear as day "It makes you gangrenous - but it's worth it", in the latter instead "the joint for me, I like it - it makes a party in my head" only to realize that "if you smoke all day - you become like Mike Bongiorno - no no no - I can't risk it - maybe it's better to give it up".
You either love them or hate them, but they deserve a listen since expressing their songs in words is very difficult. It was even more difficult to give them only a three-star rating considering the emotional bond I have with the album!
