Abdullah Ibrahim is a South African jazz pianist and composer known for meditative lyricism and a distinctive Cape jazz sound. Discovered by Duke Ellington in 1962, he has led ensembles from solo to big band and recorded extensively.

Primary instrument: piano. Also recorded and performed under the name Dollar Brand. Blends South African styles with American jazz. Composed notable albums including African Piano and Water From an Ancient Well; his piece Mannenberg (Is Where It's Happening) is widely recognized. Has written film music, including work for Claire Denis.
