THE REVIEW

It's the morning of November 2nd, I'm heading to my record store because I know the new A Perfect Circle is out today. Yeah, there are also elections in the United States today... the whole world seems to have mobilized for these elections, with P. Diddy and DiCaprio sporting Vote or Die shirts, Bon Jovi and R.E.M. on tour pro-Kerry (or rather ANTI-bush), and even Bruce Springsteen, the "American hero," who was apolitical until yesterday, now embracing the Democratic candidate. On the other side, you have four Republican country dummies and the likes of Britney and Ricky Martin backing the hated bush.

It's done, I think. "eMOTIVe, Songs Of War And Peace," features on its cover a city ablaze, destroyed by bombings. And with a huge worn-out peace symbol. Indeed.
"All I am saying is just to give peace a chance" said John Lennon 30 years ago, recalled in this album through a dark version of Imagine, transformed from a message of hope into a resigned dream of peace. I spend the day in bed, carried away by the atmospheres and quotes from this album. "What's Going on?" Maynard asks in the stunning reinterpretation of the classic Gaye, while Howerdel asserts "I can't understand what makes a man hate another man..." in People Are People by the famous Depeche Mode. MJK then lets the darkest human side emerge in Let's Start A War, another gem in which he transforms into a waters/wall-style dictator, and in Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie, true anthems to greed and the thirst for power.

The text messages, meanwhile, disturb me.
The only two new tracks, Passive and Counting Bodies Like Sheep On The War Drums, the first being a true APC gem, featuring guest Reznor and Lohner (credited in the APC line-up alongside Paz Lechantin returning after the Zwan fiasco) from NIN, while the second is a hypnotic reinterpretation of Pet (featured on "Thirteen Step") transformed into a true war march (the video is great). "Relax, everything is fine" reads a propaganda poster inside the booklet. "Freedom Of Joice" invoke the Devo through A Perfect Circle.
I wake up at night, turn on the TV. I can't believe it. The sheep have won.

GO BACK TO SLEEP... shhhh sleep tight...
