A Fine Frenzy is the project of Alison Sudol. A Fine Frenzy is Alison Sudol. "One Cell in The Sea" is her first album dated 2007 that received widespread criticism all over the world. Yet, I like it a lot.
Let's say that alongside Sinéad O'Connor, Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, Kd Lang, Natalie Merchant, Tracey Thorn, Tracy Chapman, Sarah McLachlan, and Lori Carson, she can stand. Why not?! After all, the girl writes well, has a beautiful voice, plays the piano and is even a redhead like Amos (but well below her, let's be clear). The album revolves around the melodic folk of the American girls mentioned earlier, good expressiveness, and even decent stage presence. In short, all the foundations are there.
Some very good songs like "almost lover", "ashes & wine" and "rangers" outline the picture of a record that's perhaps a bit too long (fourteen tracks) but definitely promising. The most intriguing aspect of this work, in my opinion, is the concept in the lyrics: all oriented to describe a peaceful and united nature, birds chirping in unison, little fish talking to us, rivers flowing peacefully. How sweet!
Come on, the girl is twenty! She must be supported! After all, what's the use of getting angry? (Morrissette is still around, right?)
Go Alison! I look forward to more stories of forest rangers and troubled streams from you this year.
