Ladies and gentlemen, here is the brand new album from A Day To Remember, "What Separates Me From You" following "Homesick" from 2008, still via Victory Records.

The group led by Jeremy McKinnon (singer and, for the curious, son of actress Fran Dresher, the nanny in the sitcom "The Nanny") has probably lost its most charismatic member, Tom Denney, replaced by Kevin Skaff.

Just to go against the old proverb "don't judge a book by its cover," I’ll say right away that the artwork is nice, and the internal booklet is well done. However, a tiny flaw immediately jumps out once we insert the disc into the player: the album lasts just over half an hour.

Without letting discouragement get the better of us, we press the play button and go: "Sticks & Breaks" seems to start well with rather interesting screams only to then get lost in a really weak chorus. "All I Want", the first single from the album, is one of the best of the batch, and the video will soon be available for those interested.

We skip right over "Its All Complicated" (truly one of the worst songs written by the band) and "This Is The House That Doubt Built" and arrive at "2nd sucks", quite interesting, with electronic elements and completely devoid of clean passages from the frontman.

The other half of the album is as forgettable as can be: the various "Better Off This Way" (starts decently then falls into a terrible chorus), "All Signs Point To Lauderale" (simple college pop-punk, perfect only for a random American Pie), and "Out Of Time" really leave no impression.

Listening to the closing track "If I Leave" brought to mind LostProphets from the "Start Something" era, but again, nothing memorable here.

Here's the issue with this album: almost all the songs start in an interesting way only to then get lost in the pre-choruses (ubiquitous) and the choruses.

Let’s just say that this "What Separates Me From You" won't disappoint those familiar with this genre nor the band's fans, but for others, I’d say it can be easily avoided, and let's be honest...how many of you would spend 20 euros for half an hour of rather bland music?
