"Panda Park" is the third studio album by the American group 90 Day Men, released in 2004 by Southern Records (Source Wikipedia).
The lineup features two voices, those of the bassist Lowe and the guitarist Case, supported by keyboardist Lansagan and his omnipresent keyboards often considered baroque.
The band's sound marries post-rock structures with prog and jazzy diversions, avalanches of notes played by Lansagan, and unusual-time drums.
The work consists of seven tracks that are very, very varied from each other, recorded at Albini's Electrical Audio. The only constant they present is the musicians: structures, sounds, melodic lines, timings are extremely varied.
Listening to the entire work is demanding, the tracks have a remarkable depth. I found myself often re-listening to the already-heard piece rather than moving forward in the listening.
Imposing and ambitious, the emotional content is supported by the technical and compositional skills of the members, tracks like "Silver and snow" are absolutely disorienting compared to the rest and have very captivating sonic choices. Almost-suite like "Too late or too dead", also present in a previous EP with the same title, is worth the entire listen of the album; "Night birds" uses disintegration as construction.
A work to listen to with attention, where the keyboards are the undisputed masters of the scene and aim to guide the listener through a truly vast range of colorations.
