The 65 Days of Static are an instrumental post-rock band from Sheffield, incorporating various musical genres: electronic, noise, metal, and progressive. Unfortunately, lacking vocals, they will have a hard time reaching the masses, but then again, their sound is so dense and complete that it wouldn’t allow it, and perhaps it’s better this way.
After “The Fall of Math”, they released “One Time For All Time” in 2005, Mogwai melodies intersected by Squarepusher and almost always very tight jungle rhythms that somewhat recall Venetian Snares, the drums (even electronic) take a central role, it almost seems like they sing. Every element within the tracks is placed just right, the pieces progress slowly only to explode in controlled chaos, massive sonic walls of brute intensity emerge, and immediately after, a minimal piano brings back the calm, only to restart and soar to the apex of the cyclone.
Within the sound of the 65, one can recognize various groups (Mogwai - Aphex Twin - Mars Volta - Kid 606 - Tool - Lamb, etc.) which might belong to their musical tastes, but don’t think they lack personality because they have plenty to spare.
The 65 are pure energy traveling through the air and impossible to control, going wherever it pleases, into the heart, the mind, everywhere, and anyhow, it goes.
Epic, sweet, acid, restless, and violent music, yet to love.
The 65 Days of Static are already in the future, and they allow us to take a glimpse... Magnificent, no?
