4Lyn is a quartet from Hamburg that has made their way into the German scene under this name since 2000. "Neon" is their second album with which they now aim to make a leap in quality and achieve success abroad as well. Musically, they are trendy, playing nu-metal and crossover, genres that potentially have a large following, especially in the States, which are now flooded with bands similar to them. There are 14 tracks on the new album, with the first four being very interesting and catchy. With "Pearls & Beauty," their most popular single also on TV channels like VIVA and MTV, they have garnered early accolades since the beginning of the year and have also earned spots at numerous summer festivals across Europe, including the Hurricane. Four energetic and aggressive songs, accompanied by powerful guitars and a pleasant vocal crossover that moves between rap and rock. However, while the first can be fully promoted, all the other 10 tracks are unfortunately a failure. Static and the same, partly too heavy and for this almost unbearable. There is a lack of a common denominator, an unmistakable style in each song. In short, not very original. Undoubtedly a good commercial product, capable of providing valid singles to sell the album well, but continuing this way, I unfortunately don't see great prospects for (nu-)metal. The more I listen to "Neon," the more I am convinced that nu-metal was staged only to make money. Let's see if I manage to sell it, okay... djd
