The first and only album by the 4 Non Blondes, led by the charismatic Linda Perry. It starts with the blues of Train, catchy and well-constructed, moving on to the crossover attempt of Superfly. Then we find the "one-hit wonder" What's Up? A rock/pop ballad belted out passionately, in which Linda seems to find herself at ease; it could be an autobiographical text in which almost everyone could recognize themselves. Another double passage Rock/blues to reach Spaceman, the second ballad that seems to follow the discussion started with What's Up? Old Mr. Heffer is a charming track leaning towards rockabilly, while the following Calling All the People winks at funky. Partially sparing Dear Mr. President, a protest song, it reaches the end without any high points neither from the third ballad: Drifting, nor from the concluding "funky" No Place Like Home. Overall, an album that may also appear enjoyable but sounds a bit like the consecration of Linda Perry alone and her powerful vocal cords, which would soon be further challenged in her first solo experience.
It’s an incredible album, almost perfect, that should be listened to in its entirety and immediately, without the external world distracting you from that Masterpiece;
Here lies not perhaps the most beautiful, but yet the most fitting and, moreover, the most famous song of the entire work: 'What’s Up?'
